A fierce competition is underway for the film rights to the popular video game, «Split Fiction,» as revealed by industry insiders at this year’s Game Developers Conference, as reported by Variety. Developed by Swedish indie studio Hazelight, known for creating the acclaimed game «It Takes Two,» «Split Fiction» is a split-screen multiplayer co-op game that has captured the attention of top Hollywood studios.
Story Kitchen, the media company responsible for putting together the film adaptation of «It Takes Two,» which was eventually acquired by Amazon, is already in the process of assembling a team of actors, writers, and a director for the «Split Fiction» project. While specific bidding companies have not been disclosed by Variety, it is confirmed that multiple major Hollywood studios are vying for the opportunity to bring this unique gaming experience to the big screen.
«Split Fiction» was intentionally designed for split-screen gameplay, allowing players to control either Zoe or Mio, the two main characters, as they traverse different worlds and conquer various challenges. The game’s narrative follows two authors who find themselves immersed in a new simulation technology created by Rader Publishing, enabling them to live out their fictional stories as real-life experiences.
Following a mishap, Mio inadvertently becomes entangled in Zoe’s story, triggering a glitch that enables them to journey between each other’s sci-fi tales, filled with dragons, cyberpunk motorcycles, and other fantastical elements. Launched on March 6, 2025, «Split Fiction» is currently accessible on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.
