The Region of Murcia, and specifically the area of the high districts of Lorca, has been able to witness the first steps of Iberian lynx cubs born as a result of the reproduction between specimens released in the Autonomous Community within the ‘LynxConnect’ project.
The cubs are offspring of Urtsu, a female released in February 2024, weighing 7.6 kilograms and originating from the Iberian Lynx Breeding Center Zarza de Granadilla (Cáceres), within the framework of the European program Life LynxConnect, which aims at the recovery and expansion of the Iberian lynx in the Iberian Peninsula.
The births of Urtsu’s cubs occur just two years after the start of the releases and mark a fundamental milestone, after witnessing the first wild reproduction in the Region of Murcia.
This past Wednesday, the President of the Region of Murcia shared the news on his social media, adding that «it is gratifying to see how the reintroduction efforts of the Iberian lynx in the Region of Murcia are bearing fruit.»
