Amazon is currently testing a new AI-powered feature called «Buy for Me,» which allows the e-commerce giant to make purchases for customers from other websites, specifically from the actual website of a brand they are searching for. This feature is integrated into the Amazon app, where users searching for a particular brand may see a separate section of results labeled «Shop brand sites directly,» distinct from the results provided by Amazon and its third-party sellers.
If a user clicks on the «Buy for Me» button under an item in the separate results section, they will be directed to a product detail page within the Amazon app. The page will display relevant product information similar to what is found in Amazon’s own listings. If the user decides to proceed with the purchase, Amazon will buy the item from the brand’s website using agentic AI, a type of AI that operates without human intervention. The checkout process will utilize the user’s name, address, and payment details, all of which are encrypted for security. Amazon assures users that it will not have access to their previous or future orders from brand websites. After the purchase, users will receive a confirmation email from the brand store and can track their order within the Amazon app through the new Buy for Me Orders tab in the Your Orders page.
Amazon has stated that it is not receiving a commission from purchases made through this experimental feature at this time. The feature is currently in beta and is only available to a subset of customers in the US on the iOS and Amazon apps. The test will feature a limited number of brand stores and products. Additionally, Amazon recently introduced another AI-powered feature called «Interests,» which can interpret everyday language prompts related to a user’s interests, providing relevant notifications for deals and offerings.
An update from Amazon on April 5, 2025, confirmed that the company is not receiving a commission from this experimental feature. This article was originally published on Engadget.
