The turnover of e-commerce in Spain increased by 12.6% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2024, reaching €24.558 million, according to the latest e-commerce data available on the CNMCData portal.

The sectors with the highest revenues were travel agencies and tour operators, accounting for 11.4% of total turnover; air transport, with 5.6%; and clothing, in third place, with 5.3%.

Looking at the number of transactions, more than 442 million were recorded in the third quarter of 2024, a 14.9% increase. Land passenger transport led the ranking in terms of sales (7.5%).

In terms of geographical segmentation, 42.8% of revenues in the third quarter of 2024 were destined for Spain. The remaining 57.2% were purchases made in Spain with an origin from abroad.

The net external balance (the difference between purchases made from abroad to Spain and purchases from Spain to abroad) showed a deficit of €10.7 billion.
In terms of number of transactions, 35.0% of sales were destined for Spain and 65.0% for abroad.

The turnover of transactions originating in Spain and directed abroad was €14.047 billion, a 16.2% increase from the previous year’s third quarter. 94.7% of purchases from Spain to abroad were made in EU-based stores.

The activity branch with the highest turnover from Spain to abroad was related to travel agencies (10.0%).
On the other hand, sales from abroad to Spain amounted to €3.347 billion, an 8.0% increase from the previous year’s third quarter. 59.5% of purchases from abroad came from the EU.

Additionally, areas of activity related to the tourism sector (including travel agencies, air transport, land transport, car rentals, and hotels) accounted for 61.9% of purchases from abroad to Spain.
E-commerce revenues within Spain increased by 8.3% year-on-year to €7.164 billion. Leading the turnover within Spain was public administration, taxes, and social security (8.8%).
