Anvite pide una reacción ante el resurgimiento de actos de exaltación de ETA

The Asociación Navarra de Víctimas del terrorismo de ETA (Anvite) has issued a warning about a resurgence in acts of exaltation of the terrorist violence perpetrated by the band and its material authors – imprisoned terrorists as a result of their criminal acts – and has demanded a stronger response from institutions, as well as a societal reflection on the legacy being transmitted to the younger generation.

This demand comes after an event in the neighborhood of Txantrea in Pamplona, where Anvite had to witness young people dancing in honor of the murderers of their neighbors Tomás Caballero and Francisco Casanova, among others, with their faces covered and carrying a banner extolling the figure of the terrorists.

In a statement, Anvite has called on the Navarran authorities and institutions, the Ombudsman, the Government of Navarra, and the City Council of Pamplona to «disavow and prosecute these types of acts» and «withdraw any public subsidies or assistance to events where terrorist violence is exalted or justified, and where the fundamental rights of victims and society as a whole are violated.»

The collective has urged political parties and society in general to deeply reflect on how the recent history of our country is being passed on to the new generations. «ETA no longer kills, but it does not let us live in peace. Continuously, its environment challenges us and demonstrates with facts how it is managing the ‘narrative’ and infusing our society with indoctrinated young people for whom the murders were not only justified but were heroic acts in favor of the Basque people,» they lamented.

Furthermore, they have stated that «we still lack freedom in many towns in Navarra and Euskadi. We still cannot express our ideas publicly, or even have public representation in many of our municipalities, and we will continue like this for many years if we do not do anything to stop the bloody trail of the consequences of ETA’s terrorist acts.»

Anvite has demanded to «reaffirm the commitment of democratic forces to achieve the social defeat of the legacy of the terrorist group ETA and everything that its stigma of terror, totalitarianism, and pain represented.» Likewise, they have called for «whatever legal actions are necessary to prevent and punish those who support terrorists and cause so much harm to the innocent victims of the criminal band ETA.»

Therefore, they have urged all political forces, both in Navarra and nationally, and society as a whole, to «continue advancing on this path where, despite ideological differences, we should come together and recognize each other unequivocally to achieve a future free from violence, always keeping in mind those who lost their lives along the way to achieve it.»
