The forest fire that occurred on Thursday in the Jaizkibel area, in the municipality of Pasaia (Gipuzkoa), still has an active front at five this afternoon, while the second one, towards Hondarribia, is under control. So far, about 30 hectares have been burned.
Sources from the Ertzaintza and the Diputación de Gipuzkoa have informed Europa Press that the fire started around twelve-thirty in a pine forest area in Talaia, for reasons that are unknown. So far, about 30 hectares have been burned.
Firefighters from the Diputación Foral de Gipuzkoa have been dispatched to the scene with two tanker trucks and resources from the Directorate of Forests and Natural Environment with forest guards, technical firefighting brigades with two water tankers.
In addition, the Basque Government’s helicopter is operating in the area, shared by the three provincial councils and the Ertzaintza for forest fires. Initially, there was no risk to people or homes.
The fire is not yet extinguished as there were significant wind gusts in the area. At 4:30 p.m., the front towards Hondarribia was under control, while the second front remained active. The Directorate of Forests and Natural Environment had planned surveillance devices due to the yellow warning for wind and forest fire risk.
