Google’s annual I/O developer conference is set to take place on May 20, and this year, there are two significant events that you won’t want to miss in order to stay informed about all the updates that the company is implementing on its software platforms. The first event, I/O 2025, will kick off on May 20, followed by The Android Show: I/O Edition a week earlier on May 13, which is a dedicated showcase for the Android ecosystem.
The Android Show: I/O Edition will be broadcast on May 13 at 1PM ET / 10AM PT. As Android is developed partially in the open, there are already hints about what could be included in Android 16. Some expected changes include a visual redesign of core features like the notification shade, a feature similar to Apple’s Live Activities for tracking ongoing events, and possibly a «Desktop Mode» for Android phones reminiscent of Samsung DeX.
I/O 2025 will commence on May 20 at 1PM ET / 10AM PT with Google’s keynote address. This keynote usually includes updates on Android, Search, Google Workspace, and Gemini. It is worth noting that Google typically does not allocate separate time for Android announcements during I/O. While there will be some Android news shared, the focus is likely to be on Gemini. We anticipate updates on Gemini, Android XR news, and potentially demonstrations of experimental projects like Project Astra.
Google’s I/O keynote will be available for viewing on Google’s YouTube channel as well as on other platforms once the livestream goes live on May 20 at 1PM ET.
The Android Show: I/O Edition will be aired on Google’s Android YouTube channel on May 13 at 1PM ET. Since it seems to be pre-recorded, the video has already been embedded for viewers to watch.
