Sánchez busca una sociedad más tolerante e inclusiva tras reunirse con entidades gitanas

The president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has advocated for building «a more tolerant and inclusive society» after meeting on Monday at the Moncloa Complex with entities of the Gypsy people in Spain.

«Hoy me he reunido con entidades referentes del pueblo gitano para conmemorar el 600º aniversario de su llegada a España. Gracias por vuestra labor. Juntos seguiremos construyendo una sociedad más tolerante e inclusiva,» he assured in a message on the social network X.

The meeting took place in commemoration of the 600th anniversary of the arrival of this community in Spain and the International Day of the Gypsy People celebrated on Tuesday, April 8. Also present at the event were the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, and the Minister of Social Rights, Consumption, and Agenda 2030, Pablo Bustinduy.

Representatives from various entities attended, such as the Federation of Gypsy Women’s Associations FAKALI; the Autonomous Federation of Gypsy Associations of the Valencian Community; the Khetané Platform of the Gypsy Associative Movement of the Spanish State; the Maranatha Federation of Gypsy Associations; the National Presence Gypsy Association; the Union Romaní Madrid Association; National Federation of Gypsy Women’s Associations Kamira; the Gypsy Secretariat Foundation and the Gypsy Culture Institute.

In January, the Government approved an institutional declaration at the Council of Ministers in commemoration of the 600th anniversary of the arrival of the Gypsy people in Spain and declared 2025 as the Year of the Gypsy People in Spain.
