Apple has not abandoned its previously rumored plans to release a more affordable Vision Pro, as reported by Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter. According to Gurman, Apple is currently working on two new models: one that is lighter and cheaper than the first generation headset, and another that would be able to tether to a Mac. The shift towards the Vision Pro was made in order to create an ultra-low-latency system for streaming a user’s Mac display or for connecting to high-end enterprise applications.
The ultimate goal for Apple, however, is to create AR glasses that are practical and comfortable enough to be worn like regular glasses. The next iterations of the Vision Pro are seen as steps towards achieving this goal. Gurman also reports that Apple CEO Tim Cook is determined to create a leading product in the industry before Meta can.
